InVintory: The 11-Person Startup Taking On Wine's Legacy Giants
Josh Daiter was building apps, not collecting wine, when his father spent eight minutes hunting for one bottle in his fridge, found it, and watched it roll off the shelf and shatter. The next morning his dad called, done with the problem for good. Josh's first reaction was that no market could exist for solving it.
He was building InVintory within the year.
What started as a way to find a bottle in a cellar has become a platform reaching from private collectors into hotels, restaurants, and yachts, built and run by a team of eleven going up against the established names in the space. Josh and Matt get into the 3D cellar mapping that came out of that broken bottle, the single sommelier who now safeguards a database of nearly 700,000 wines, and the pricing sources most of the trade has never heard of that quietly outperform the ones everyone relies on.
They also take on the fight Josh didn't expect to have. His AI sommelier has become the most divisive thing he has ever built, and he makes the case for why wine resists AI harder than any industry he has worked in, and why the smell, the memory, and the emotion in a glass are the one thing no machine is coming for.
